Founded in 1974 as the Fédération des associations étudiantes en médecine du Québec (FAEMQ), the main mission of the Federation médicale étudiante du Québec (FMEQ) has always been to regroup the four medicine schools of the province to promote and defend the collective interests of Quebec medical students on educational, political and social issues. The FMEQ also fulfills a second mission of enhancing communication and collaboration between medical student societies and their members. Finally, the FMEQ also aims to provide useful and diversified services to its members.

Today, the FMEQ represents more than 3,700 members over the course of their years as medical students; thirty of them are actively involved in the activities of the Fédération médicale étudiante du Québec.
