The "FMEQ' is involved in several areas of activity. The Federation represents and informs students of political , pedagogical and international issues. For additional information, please refer to the following sections:

Most importantly, the "FMEQ'"s priority is the quality of medical education. The outlook in becoming a doctor varies from one university to the other just as the teaching strategies. Each Quebec medical school has a unique teaching strategy. For additional information, please refer to programs available in each university.Once the title of doctor is attained, one must complete a residency before being able to practice medicine. The process residency acceptance constitutes a critical stage for medical students.

The "FMEQ" is composed of three ruling components namely the convention, the administration board and the executive board. The operation of the "FMEQ" is conducted under a charter which is revised and modified, if necessary, at the annual convention.

The Convention is held once a year, normally at the beginning of October. Thirty two (32) voting delegates, 8 for each medical faculty and the President of each student society attend the Convention. Any medical student may participate as an observer. The Convention is the main event of the "FMEQ": major decisions, such as mandates for the following year, and the general orientation of the Federation are discussed. The new Executive Board is also voted in.

The Administration Board (AB) comprises all executive members, the four Presidents from the Medical Associations of Laval, McGill, Montreal and Sherbrooke, as well as one or two delegates from each university. The AB meets at least three times per year. The principal role of this Board is to ensure that the mandates outlined at the Convention are followed, make major decisions, verify and approve financial statements and retroactively approve the decision of the Executive Board .

The Executive Board (EB) comprises the President and eight delegates from the Associations, namely two for each faculty. The past President also assists in the capacity of observer and adviser. The EB meets when necessary (normally once per month) and deals with the management of the Federation as well as the application of mandates.
