On May 7 2002, the Fédération des associations étudiantes en médecine du Québec (FAÉMQ), that would later become the Fédération médicale étudiante du Québec (FMEQ), alerted the Permanent Committee for Medical Education of its concern about the increases in admissions and the possible impact that it could have on the quality of medical teaching. The federation's reports then led to the creation of The medical education taskforce who submitted its report during December 2002. Report of the medical education taskforce (french version) The following are the major themes: · teaching effectives can barely meet the needs · material resources (lecture-rooms, labs) are already used to maximum capacity · clinics are saturated and access to patients has become more and more difficult To summarize, the recommendations were submitted to the Ministry of Health and social services and the Ministry of Education. Currently, little improvement was made while the number of students continued to increase. In this context, pedagogical affairs delegates from all four faculties gathered in a committee to ensure a better continuum of this issue. As a result of their work, a position has been adopted by the Federation during the month of September 2006.
